How can I make an appointment?
You can contact us upon referral by a physician or on your own initiative. An appointment is mandatory for a genetic consultation. To set an appointment, call our secretariat during office hours: +32 9 332 3603.
The following information will be asked:
- Name and phone number(s)
- Is this a new or a follow-up appointment?
- Reason for consultation, name of doctor who referred you to the center.
We will do whatever we can to give you an appointment as soon as possible. Please note that there is a waiting list (several weeks). Urgent consultations, however, can always be arranged.
What will I need to take to the consultation?
Medical data: If possible, take copies of medical reports possibly relating to the reason of your visit to our center.
Belgian Health Service data: Please bring your electronic identity card (eID) or yellow identification stickers of the Belgian Health Service (and if necessary also those of family members coming along with you).
Family history data: During the genetic consultation we will draw up a pedigree of your family. Therefore detailed medical information about close and distant relatives is asked: which diseases run in the family? At what age did people get the disease? Did family members die as a result of those diseases? Who? Mainly information regarding the condition that is the reason for consultation is important. It is thus useful to collect this information before consultation. Obviously, it is not always easy to collect such information and sometimes it is very delicate as well. If required, we can help you.
Before the consultation you need to subscribe at the reception in the hospital building K1 - K2.
The patient contribution for a genetic test routinely amounts to € 8,68.
